21 year-old joins the club on loan for the rest of the season

Fulham have officially confirmed that the club have brought in Arsenal defensive midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 21 year-old has only made two appearances for the North London side so far this season, both in the Capital One Cup.

He has previously had spells at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic, the latter of which proved unsuccessful, with Frimpong failing to convince at Championship level.

Barely weeks after leaving Charlton, though, he will now be chucked back into Premier League football, more-than-likely providing cover for the injury prone Mahamadou Diarra.

Both are defensive midfielders with similar attributes - solid, strong in the tackle and resolute in front of the back four - but at such a tender age, you have to worry about his mental capabilities.

He's most certainly not the creative central midfielder we desperately crave but the signing certainly makes sense in the short term. He should be well adept at holding the midfield together and protecting the defence while Bryan Ruiz plays ahead of him.

It is unlikely that any option to buy will be installed in the deal with Arsenal still relatively confident that he could prove an important player in the future.
