Martin Jol says contract negotiations with Brede Hangeland will continue from "today"

Fulham have re-opened talks with Brede Hangeland over his contract, as the defender attracts more interest from clubs closely following his situation.

The Norwegian's contract runs out at the end of the season and Arsenal and Manchester United are among the clubs looking to pick him up on a free transfer.

However, Martin Jol is confident that Hangeland will stay at the club after nearly five years at Craven Cottage and negotiations are expected to progress from as early as this evening.

When asked about developments, Jol said: "Talks are always ongoing - not every day - but we're talking with him and his management today."

Whether that will throw United and Arsenal off the scent remains to be seen, but Hangeland's ability to ignore more prosperous advances in the past is perhaps a good omen.
