As a very Fulham-centric blog, perhaps this may seem a little out of place. But, if you have followed some of my prior postings on here, you may have established that I have a soft spot for the League of Ireland. Today, Shamrock Rovers pulled off a major upset and perhaps the biggest win in European play in the league's history, defeating Partizan Belgrade 2-1 in extra time in Belgrade to secure a 3-2 aggregate win. Above is Pat Sullivan's beautiful second-half volley. The goal leveled the scores and allowed the match to reach extra time, where Rovers triumphed after a late penalty. This is the first time an Irish side has reached the group stage in European play in any competition. Major kudos to the Hoops for what they accomplished.
